The Great British Bake Off has returned to our screens and with it a new judge and a new hosts.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I love the original squad and everything about them. BUT I am loving that the GBBO is back on our screens and I don’t even mind the new team thats been assembled. The adverts are slightly annoying, however thanks to the wonders of TV development we can now pause the TV and catch up after 15 minutes. So all in all not the end of the world.
The first show kicked off with a bang and I was surprised to see that the challenges were much harder than last year, I am not complaining it made for great TV watching and I look forward to seeing the upcoming challenges.
So, if you have followed me for a while, you may be aware that last year I took it upon myself to challenge myself to bake along with the contestants in the tent. So here I am again, taking on that challenge and I will be making something from the show each week.
I may post over a week later (like this) however I will endeavour to complete the challenge effectively.
To celebrate week one I decided to make the technical challenge, chocolate mini rolls. I won’t post the whole recipe I used during the challenge (it would be a very long post) but in the spirit of things, I used Pru’s recipe which you can view here.
It was an easy recipe to follow and was all in all an easy cake to bake. I personally wasn’t overly happy with the overall finish and I am 100% sure that Paul and Pro would have marked me down for presentation! As you can see from the pictures below the chocolate icing wasn’t the best (I let it cool too much) and the white icing wasn’t perfect either. As you can see I tried to do ‘different’ swirls like Liam. It failed and they looked awful.
I also found that half my rolls had a decent swirl and the others looked like they had a clump of icing on one side and then no icing on the other. Very odd.
I did enjoy making these, especially as Dan helped me in the kitchen which was very fun.
Also another positive with these was that it was something different to make. They looked very big and yummy and Dan gave me the approving nod as he was eating them. Also just whilst were talking about that, he loved them and told me his dad would too so thats where were are now headed to share my chocolate mini rolls with the family.
Here’s a few pictures to help show you how I got on.
Have you taken on the bake along challenge? If so what did you make for week 1?
Until next time,
