Week One: Fruit Cake

I actually can’t believe that we are at that time of year when bake off is back. Don’t get me wrong, I love this time of year as it means I spend more time in the kitchen baking along with the show but still how fast is this year going?

Anyway, week one in the bake off tent and this year we are treated to 13 bakers, yes that’s right a bakers dozen. Meaning that one week two people will be leaving…dun dun dun…yes that’s the 10yr anniversary twist for you. Totally anticipate that this year will be harder but bring it on!

So week one brought us, Cake week. Featuring fruit cake, angel cake and the birthday cake you wish you had when you was a child.

I was actually really impressed with the show this week, pleasantly surprised, yes there were simple mistakes, but hey it’s got to be tough cooking to a ticking clock!

The Bake.

This week, I decided to bake a fruit cake. I followed a recipe from the show, found on the Great British Bake Off website here. It was a fairly simple recipe to follow to be honest, the only things I didn’t do were the marzipan stars and the apricot glaze, mainly because I messed up the glaze and couldn’t be bothered to the do the stars. Instead I made an orange icing glaze, which seems to have worked well.

So there we have it, week one. Week two is biscuit week so bring it on. 😉

If you are baking along this year I’d like to see what you bake! Tag me in! #GBBOBakeAlong @fueltheblog @fueltheblogbakealong
