Ok so week four in the tent was a week of many highs and many lows. This means only one thing, a new week in the tent. Dairy week.
I was a bit confused when I heard the announcement on week three to be honest but watching the challenges unfold just told me like normal I was over complicating it. It was simple three challenges, a signature which must feature a ‘cultured milk’ a complicated technical inspired by Henry VIII and then to top it all off a showstopper featuring an milk-based Indian sweets.
Definitely a tricky week, especially as there was a disaster on the signature and no one got the technical right!
I was excited to try a ‘cultured milk’ bake. I feel like it’s something I’ve done before but the method used here was a different one so was an interesting challenge. I followed Rosie’s recipe from the show and made a basil and limoncello cake. (You can view the recipe here)
Everything was going well until I tried to take it out of the tin. I mean let’s just say it’s a soft cake and ripped in two as it came out. Maybe it needed longer to cool in the tin or maybe I just messed up but one things for sure I was not happy about it. I have no idea how the bakers keep calm, I have a feeling I would have done an Ian and walked out, because well I walked out of my kitchen pretty upset, yes there were tears and all for a blog bake along.
I have no idea why I am so emotional about a cake not coming out but to me this is my own personal challenge for the bake off and I feel like I have failed. It’s the first time since I have been doing this I have felt so low!
Anyhow I’m going to embrace the scraps of cake that are left and take them to work for people to pick at. Hopefully it’s delicious and hopefully the cake has a happy ending in someone’s stomach. I really want to try and make this one again because it smelt amazing. As they say practice makes perfect!
Anyhow, here are some pictures…
Until next week, let’s hope the road is up from here!!
