Week Three – Cottage Loaf

Week Three in the tent brought us Bread Week! I love bread and the smell of it baking in the oven, but I must admit that it pains me how long it takes to make! It is one of the reasons why I like making cakes more. Bread week as ever proved to be another…

Week Two – Jam Filled Butter Biscuits

Week Two in the tent brought us Biscuit Week. It was another challenging week for the bakers where they were tasked to make sandwich biscuits, fortune cookies and a showstopper which was a biscuit board game!  Looking back on my baking, I’ve made 1/2 a board game before when I made my scrabble cookies (see…

August Wrap Up

Cinnamon Sticky Buns

You may remember how my last recipe post talked about how I stepped back into the weekend and made a cake, prepped cookie dough and also spent a long time making Cinnamon buns only to burn them.

In truth, the recipe was right all the way up to the oven section where I burnt them. In hind sight I should have checked on them before time was up but I busied myself in cleaning and only went back to the oven when the timer was up. Even looking back now at the recipe I can see that it says ‘for about 25minutes’. So guys always read & re-read the recipe!

Lemon Madeira Cake

Last weekend I stepped back into the kitchen and it was all sorts of wonderful. Like I spent all morning in the kitchen, made a cake, prepped cookie dough and prepped cinnamon buns only to burn them. I wasn’t happy about that, but I really enjoyed baking. Feeling the stress disappear and just like I was getting a bit of me back again.

So lets talk about the cake I made, I basically had time to kill as I was waiting for my cinnamon buns to prove so I saw a lemon and decided to make a Lemon Madeira cake. Which turned out to be a rather nice addition!
